Il Damplein col Monumento Nazionale eretto in memoria dei caduti per la patria tra il 1949 e il 1945 è la piazza più importante, attiva e vivace di Amsterdam e collega il Damrak col Rokin. Il Palazzo Reale venne costruito nel 1648, come sede del municipio della città. I suoi architetti furono Jacob van Campen e Daniel Stalpaert.
