Piazza Dam


Il Damplein col Monumento Nazionale eretto in memoria dei caduti per la patria tra il 1949 e il 1945 è la piazza più importante, attiva e vivace di Amsterdam e collega il Damrak col Rokin. Il Palazzo Reale venne costruito nel 1648, come sede del municipio della città. I suoi architetti furono Jacob van Campen e Daniel Stalpaert. Questo impressionante edificio con facciata neoclassica si sostiene su 13059 pali (provenienti da tronchi d'albero, in maggior parte provenienti dall'estero). Nel 1808 durante il breve regno di Luigi Bonaparte, fratello di Napoleone, il Municipio si convertì in palazzo ma, dopo la partenza del Bonaparte, il suo successore Gugliemo I, restituì il palazzo alla comunità di Amsterdam.

Madame Tussaud

Madame Tussaud è solo uno dei tanti, bellissimi e famosissimi musei presenti ad Amsterdam, si trova nel Damplein N°20, qui non solo si può osservare la "quasi vera" Famiglia Reale Olandese ed il più famoso pittore olandese Rembrandt van Rijn, ma anche i più attuali politici, come Bill Clinton, John Major, Helmut Kohl, Wim Kok, Nelson Mandela, ed altre personalità di tutto il mondo. Il museo è aperto in Luglio e Agosto dalle 9 e 30 alle 19 e 30, mentre il resto dell'anno dalle ore 10 alle 17 e 30.

Apriamo subito con uno dei luoghi più visitati della città, non prendiamoci in giro, anche se non andrete ad Amsterdam apposta per vedere le famosissime vetrine, sicuramente un giretto nel Quartiere a luci rosse sarete interessati a farlo, almeno per dare un'occhiata e poter dire di esserci stati. Effettivamente per esperienza personale la zona merita...ragazze stupende specialmente dopo le 21.30 e fiumi di gente che vaga senza meta intenta a guardare le vetrine sicuramente non per acquistare qualche souvenir.
Il RLD si estende nella zona ad est di piazza Dam ed al suo interno oltre alle vetrine ci sono un gran numero di Sexy Shop, cinema e teatri a luci rosse, PeepShow ed addirittura un museo del sesso.
Questo quartiere è però un microcosmo, un mondo isolato rispetto al resto della città, e con gli anni si è guadagnato la fama, non proprio piacevole, di essere una delle zone più malfamate della città, ed in effetti il contrasto con la vicina piazza Dam e con i quartieri limitrofi è notevole.
Sempre per esperienza personale consiglio di non avventurarsi nel quartiere dopo l'una di notte (e per l'esperienza di amici e conoscenti nella notte tra il 31 Dicembre e il 1° Gennaio) anche perchè la polizia lascia la zona.
Le tariffe sono standard e sono di 50€ ogni quarto d'ora.
Ricordiamo che in Olanda la prostituzione è legale e tassata dallo stato perciò se avete qualche genere di problema in questa zona potete tranquillamente rivolgervi alla polizia.
E' possibile che durante le vostre passeggiate nel quartiere incrociate persone (prevalentemente di colore) che a bassa voce vi offrono droghe pesanti (prevalentemente cocaina), non considerateli se ne andranno da soli, si ricorda che in Olanda la detenzione, l'uso e the trafficking of such substances is illegal and punishable by imprisonment.
